Trump spent a significant amount of time at the Republican National Convention August 24-28 campaigning on the idea that, if re-elected, he would be the “law and order president.” In truth, the “Law and Order President” loves violence.
He repeatedly criticized violence that has been happening in America’s “Democrat-run cities.”
There have been demonstrations. We know that demonstrators, who have turned out in “Democrat-run cities” to express their opposition to police violence perpetrated against Black people, are and have been protesting peacefully. We also know that the people committing violence are not the people who are protesting peacefully.
For example, a few months ago there were demonstrations against Democratic governor of Michigan Gretchen Whitmer, in Lansing, Michigan’s Capital City. Many of the people protesting against Covid-19-driven health and safety practices Whitmer instituted were threatening others with guns.
We also know that those protestors with the guns were organized by political groups that are supportive of Trump — these were not grassroots protests were not organized by ordinary citizens. They were organized by political groups funded by people like Secretary of Education and Trump supporter Betsy DeVos.
In addition, many of the people with the guns, protesting against Gov. Whitmer, were also carrying pro-Trump signs or confederate flags or other signs of the groups that support Trump and the Republican party in general.
Advance the timeline to the recent past. At the RNC, we saw Donald Trump and the Republican party leadership promote and honor a couple — who had aimed guns at peaceful protesters outside their home — by giving the threatening and gun-aiming couple a speaking slot on the first night of the convention.
In addition to knowing the violence in the “Democrat-run cities” is not being perpetrated by the peaceful protesters, we know the factions threatening peaceful protestors and others with guns, and committing violent destruction of property, are the Trump supporters. The other reason we know that the Trump supporters are committing the violence is because Trump needs the violence in order to have something to rail against and pretend to be the “law and order president.”
As a side note about the Republican Party, who had their convention most recently, remember that the Republican Party does not even have a platform, or see a need for one.
Ordinarily, every political party hammers together a platform of policy positions and actions that it would like to take. The Democratic Party has a platform. However, at its convention, in place of a platform, the GOP put out a one-page document stating that it supports the agenda of Donald Trump. The Republican Party is no longer a legitimate political party. It is a cult that stands for and Has vowed to support any ridiculous idea that jump into Trump’s head.
Let’s return to the Trump campaign, the Republican party and its love of and need to perpetrate violence and destruction in America’s “Democrat-run cities.“ Here is the biggest problem with the Trump campaign strategy leveraging violence that his supporters are committing:
Trump does not seem to understand that he is fully empowered to stop the violence. But the “Law and Order President” loves violence.
Trump is in fact currently the president of the United States. He has more power than anyone else and more power than he has never had before.
Most importantly, he has as much power now as he would have if he were re-elected president. If Trump were not president and violence were occurring that he was saying he would be able to stop, if he were elected president, then his strategy might make a tiny sliver of sense. But because he is currently the president, his trying to act as if he’s not and doesn’t have that power is not only ridiculous, it is completely absurd.

On July 23, Trump canceled the in-person portions of the Republican National Convention in August in Jacksonville, FL, citing the Coronavirus pandemic in Florida.
But at the same time, Trump insisted that students should go back to school in August and September — everywhere from Jacksonville, and Miami FL, to rural Wyoming and Michigan, to Phoenix, AZ.
We have seen Coronavirus outbreaks in summer camps this year — which feature groups of children together. Groups of children in camps are very similar to groups of children together in schools.
Trump has also insisted that he should be allowed to vote by mail — something he has done in previous elections — but that no one else should be allowed to vote by mail.
Trump clearly believes that he should be able to enjoy a very different standard — a much lower one — than ordinary citizens.

In a case of amazing GOP unemployment stupidity, many Republican legislators are focused on “not paying people more in unemployment benefits than they could earn if they were working.” The key word is “could.”
The line of reasoning these GOP legislators are using only makes sense if one critical thing were true (but it is not): if there were jobs for unemployed people to do.
However, these Republican legislators are apparently unwilling — or unable — to comprehend that the majority of unemployed people are unemployed because the companies they used to work for are not operating. It is a simple, easy-to-understand fact.
This means that these unemployed people have not chosen not to work and instead receive unemployment benefits. The jobs they had are not available — and this is why they have applied for unemployment benefits.
Time will tell if there will be any end to this GOP unemployment stupidity.
According to US News & World Report, “The GOP hasn’t reached consensus on whether – or by how much – to renew the enhanced federal benefits that are set to mostly expire by the end of the week, but the party has strongly indicated that the weekly $600 federal enhancement provided on top of state unemployment benefits would need to be reduced. Some lawmakers are floating the possibility that it could be modified to between $200 and $400 a week, according to The Washington Post.”
Forbes reported on July 16, “On Thursday, the United States Department of Labor announced that over 1.3 million Americans filed initial unemployment claims last week. This report marks the 17th consecutive week of 1-million-plus unemployment claims. About 51 million people have filed for unemployment benefits since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. This doesn’t include the millions of others who’ve finished collecting benefits, given up looking for a job or have reluctantly taken a position far below their prior compensation level just to make ends meet.”
Remember, the Coronavirus impact did not have to be like this.
Trump made it like this.
A large amount of data about the coronavirus has accumulated during the last several months. These data show the coronavirus positive tests increasing. Trump insists that the rising number of Coronavirus cases in the United States results from increased testing capacity. He insists that performing a larger number tests will result in a larger number of positive test results. A large amount of data about the coronavirus has accumulated during the last several months. These data show the coronavirus positive tests increasing. Trump insists that the rising number of Coronavirus cases in the United States results from increased testing capacity. He insists that performing a larger number tests will result in a larger number of positive test results.
Unfortunately, this is a lie.
And there is data to prove it.
The data comes from the widely used and referenced Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center. This data source is The COVID Tracking Project.
Without a doubt, anyone looking at the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus page will see exactly what the data show. Below is an image of the specific chart to which I refer. It shows the coronavirus positive tests increasing recently.
From roughly April 26 through June 7, the number of tests conducted each week increased (light beige bars). At the same time, the average percentage of those tests that were positive was going down (blue line). However, as the number of tests has risen, the percentage of positive tests has recently started to rise.
One can select specific states’ data from the graph. For example, Florida data shows the percentage of positive test results going up. In Michigan, the percentage has stayed almost flat.
Overall, in the United States, the data shows that the positivity rate — the percentage of positive tests (number of positives for every 100 tests conducted week over week) — has started increasing in recent weeks.
According to the COVID Tracking Project, “Johns Hopkins relies on the COVID Tracking Project testing data for its COVID-19 Testing Insights Initiative, which brings data and expert analysis together in one place. The initiative is designed to help policymakers and the public understand the trajectory of the pandemic, and make decisions about the path forward.”
Additionally, the White House chose the COVID Tracking Project as the best source to cite for daily US test numbers in its “Opening Up America Again” testing strategy.

Trump owns this Coronavirus carnage. He insisted for months that there was no need to do anything, despite many briefings from experts — many times and for several weeks — about how serious the disease could be to America.
In addition, Trump praised China and its leader on its handling of Coronavirus many times in January and February. (But Trump’s campaign now runs TV ads criticizing complimentary things Biden said about China years and years ago.)
In fact, we have been living through something much, much worse than the (imaginary) “American Carnage” Trump said he would end during his Inaugural speech in January 2017 — when he inherited one of the best economies in the last 50 years.
Remember when he said, during his acceptance speech for the Republican presidential nomination, “I alone can fix it”?
There was no “carnage” that needed “fixing” in 2017.
However, this year, Trump created a massive problem. He has no idea, nor any desire to “fix it.” He said as recently as this week that it will just “go away.” His son Eric insisted — this week — that Coronavirus is a “Democrat hoax” that will “go away” after the November election.
Through January and February, Trump insisted that the United states government had Coronavirus “under control” until evidence became overwhelming the second week of March.
The one thing he insists made a difference was his “China travel ban.” Trump put his “China travel ban,” into effect AFTER the Coronavirus was already well-established in the United States, and after most airlines had already voluntarily stopped US-China air travel. His “travel ban” also allowed more than 40,000 people to travel into the United States from China after the “ban” took effect.
In those months, Trump told many of the biggest and most consequential of the 16,000+ lies he has publicly uttered.
As reported by the New York Times, “If the United States had begun imposing social distancing measures one week earlier than it did in March, about 36,000 fewer people would have died in the coronavirus outbreak, according to new estimates from Columbia University disease modelers.
“And if the country had begun locking down cities and limiting social contact on March 1, two weeks earlier than most people started staying home, the vast majority of the nation’s deaths — about 83 percent — would have been avoided, the researchers estimated.
“Under that scenario, about 54,000 fewer people would have died by early May.”
Indeed, Trump owns this Coronavirus carnage, which has had far worse impact in the United States than necessary. Trump wasted more than two months telling us that it would magically “go away.” Trump also spent more than two months doing nothing significant about it.
Some people have gotten very upset that they cannot peaceably assemble and not risk getting Covid-19. It is simply a matter of peaceable assembly and Coronavirus risk. For them it is an “I’m losing my civil rights!” issue and they are getting really riled up. For them it is an “I’m losing my civil rights!” issue and they are getting really riled up.
Here is an exact analogy:
You have said that your goal is not to get pregnant or to cause anyone else to become pregnant, AND you have gotten really angry and started marching in the streets and suing your Governor because you cannot have sex with people without using any form of birth control.
You need to pick one (not risking pregnancy) or the other (having sex without birth control). Not getting pregnant and having sex without birth control are oil and water. They do not stay mixed.
Both cannot coexist in the same universe
when it comes to peaceable assembly and Coronavirus risk.
Some people do not understand this and they are suing.
Have they never heard “you can’t have your cake and eat it too”?
