This is one of Coach Parker’s Spread Offense Plays, the Texas 2×2 Max Swing elite youth football pass play from the Wildcat Multi Spread Offense Playbook. This is from his Texas Spread Formation Offensive scheme for 2×2 and 2×1 sets. Swing screen pass plays are easy youth football pass plays to execute.

This is another free play in Coach Parker’s Free Youth Football Plays series that he started in 2021. He is trying to post at 2 to 3 pee wee football plays a week on his Coaching Youth Football Tips, Plays, Drills and Playbooks football coaching blog.

Spread Offense Plays

spread offense plays Tex Max Swing Pass

This is a great screen play from the Spread Offense. It looks like a running formation or a maximum protection for a long pass. You clear the side of the screen and swing out the back to an open field of green. You can put the back in motion if not in the Max tag like in the video below and make it look like a whole new play.

If you have trouble with the backside blocking then #3 back should block and not continue his route. QB can also continue to roll and turn into a sweep option play. So many spread offense plays from this formation, just need to find out which one works best with your talent pool.

spread formations in Wildcat Multi Spread Offense

The Texas formation is one of the base spread formations in Coach Parker’s WMSO playbook, along with Cake a Single Wing Spread Formation, Ace a Trips formation, Jumbo another trips / Wildcat formation and finally Squad a bunch spread offense based on spread out single wing formations.

You can find more info about the Texas Spread Offensive formation and plays in this video from the WMSO playbook for youth football by Coach Parker. He goes over the Texas 2×2 formation and plays. This is a great set of plays for any spread offense playbook youth football.

This is Coach Parker’s Spread Offense Playbook Youth Football. It is his #1 best top 100 Spread plays for pee wee football teams. Below is a 30 minute video walk through of the spread formation playbook; The Wildcat Multi Spread Offense.

The is a great spread offense pdf eBook playbook for youth football teams 8U Select and up or about 10U and up for recreational youth football teams. It is a more complex playbook than his Power Wing Beast Offense Playbook. If you are looking for a spread offense playbook youth football then look no further than the Wildcat Multi spread offense info below.

Spread Offense Playbook Youth Football Video

Spread Formation & History Video Part 1

  • The Spread Offense started out as a Triple Wing running offense with a passing attack for TCU in the 1940’s and 50’ under Coach Dutch Meyer.
  • As passing attacks became more popular, so did the Spread Offense’s wide-open passing attack and run game with High School coaches willing to have some fun in a Run and Shoot Offense.
  • The wide-open Spread Passing game became a wild Cougar Air Raid at the college level. Running was at a minimum for the Red Raiders too.
  • The Craziness of the Run and Shoot Air Raid was great for colleges, but the Pistol brought an I variation Spread to the NFL Falcons.
  • Option football worked itself into the Spread in Florida and Spread Option football entered and not just for the run game.
  • If the I and Option football could become part of the Spread so could the Auburn Power run game, and now we have the modern Pro Style Spread Offense run by the NCAA and NFL teams.
  • The formation has come full circle, just as it was written by the Football Gods. A balanced attacking offense.

It is always good to know the history of a Spread Offense Playbook Youth Football. Coach Parker’s book is based more around the Dutch Myers TCU Spread than the Air Raid Spread Offense of Leach.

Main WMSO Spread Formations

spread formations in Wildcat Multi Spread Offense

The Main Spread Formations in the Wildcat Multi Spread Offense Playbook are the Texas Formation which is a standard 2×2 or 2×1 offensive formation. The Cake formation which is a variation of a Single Wing Spread Formation or Wildcat. The Ace Trips formation and Jumbo are based off my Beast Double wide formation that Coach Parker has been running for years. The Squad formation is Coach Parker’s take on Bunch formations and super spread single wing formations.

This is part of the spread offense playbook youth football video on the Main WMSO Spread Formations

Texas Spread Formation 2×2 Plays

Texas 2x2 spread formation plays

In this part of the video and spread offense playbook youth football Coach Parker goes over all the Texas 2×2 formation and plays. This is a great set of plays for any spread offense playbook youth football.

From the TCU “Normal” Spread formation
The Texas formation is a two back set with the a QB and FB in the backfield. The FB can be at a sniffer, up FB, Side FB or behind QB at TB. You can tag as needed. You can also adjust splits of X/Y and 2/3 slot backs. I will also sometimes add the #3 or #2 RB to the backfield with a tag, 2TB or 3HBR.

Cake Single Wing Spread Formation Plays

Cake Single Wing Spread Formation Plays

Cake is Coach Parker’s Single Wing Spread formation based on the Notre Dame Box formation for the early 1900s and a SMU Spread variation. You can see the Cake Spread Plays video. Great single wing spread plays from the WMSO spread offense playbook youth football by Coach Parker.

The Cake formation consists of two speed backs in the backfield and two fullback types as the power wings, sniffers or blocking backs.  The two power blocking backs will move in tight and out wide of the offensive line depending upon the hole call or formation tag. The two blocking backs are together on one side of the football acting together as lead power blockers, power wings or a power stack in this spread offense playbook youth football plays.

Ace Trips Spread Formation Plays

Ace Trips Jumbo Spread Formation Plays in Wildcat

The Ace, Jumbo and Worm formation are spread double and triple wing formations and or Trips formation. See plays from the Ace, Jumbo Worms Formations. I have been using this spread offense playbook youth football formation since 1994 with great success at the 7u, 8u, 9u, 10u , 11u and 12u levels. Find out more about the WMSO.

The Ace formation is similar to the Tex and Cake formations; double wing and single wing formations. Since the Texas Spread formation was developed from the Ace formation at TCU in the 50’s, you can still run many of the Texas formation plays in the Ace formation. I’ve drawn up a few plays in the Ace formation, but I did not redraw each Texas formation play in Ace. You can judge how you want to develop Ace into your offense. For me, Ace is usually just a Texas tag to move the FB to Wingback from Texas.

Squad Bunch Formation Plays in WMSO

Squad Bunch Spread Formations Gang

Squad formation is Coach Parker’s take on the Bunch formation and the old lonesome pole cat play. See the Squad formation spread plays from his WMSO spread offense playbook youth football.

The Squad formation is a Notre Dame Single Wing formation spread out. The complimentary Squad formations are Gang and Diamond bunches. Simple, Delta and Sail are also in the Squad bunch family. The main play out of Squad is the quick Screen.

General Blocking Info & Player Profiles

The last part of the spread formation video reviews blocking and player profiles that best work with the Wildcat Multi spread offense playbook youth football.

One of my favorite Diamond Formation Plays in my top best categories is the Trig 25 Counter Play for youth kid football players to execute. This is a simple play for pee wee football players in a strong running formation the inverted Wishbone or Diamond formation which I call Trig mainly for my wrist coach name because its short and sweet. This is another post in the free youth football plays series. Enjoy!

Diamond Formation Plays

diamond formation plays counter

On this play the offensive line is lined up in an even line with two tight ends. I personally prefer to run to the left, so I would have my power side OLM on the left. The QB will open toward the backside WB4 and then reverse pivot a tad to handoff the football to the TB who made a counter jab step backside. Both the FB3 and TB2 make a counter jab steps just enough to show LBs opposite flow then wham back with the Counter out the 5 Hole.

It looks like the blocking call is a JAW with the TE blocking down on the inside LB after a Chip block for any DL engaged with the OT. The FB will kick out anyone outside of the hole. And of course the QB and WB4 will run great fakes on the backside because a good fake is worth two blocks.

You can also run this same play with the QB keeping and the WB4 hitting the TE8 position and the QB and TE8 running a quick pass option play. Simple audible.

Here are some more Trig Diamond formation plays and a video. And here is a pass play from the Inverted Wishbone Formation in the free youth football plays series.

Diamond Formation

Trig Offensive Formation

I use the Trig or Diamond Formation Plays to run as my counter formation and quick FB blast formation. We use Spin and Spin Drop action to quickly hand off to one of the up backs and the revers pivot. We will also use this as a max protect passing formation. If you have two big fullbacks and a tough tailback this would be a good formation for your youth football team.

Just as an FYI, much of the base plays and coaching tips that are in my youth football playbooks are on my WebsiteTwitterFacebook and Youtube sites. You can also find more of my free youth football plays that I posted on my Youth Football Coaching Tips Pinterest free football plays board.

short punt single wing free play youth football

Today’s free youth football play is the Short Punt Formation Play from the many proven Single Wing Plays for Youth Football. The short punt formation has been around since the early 1900s and invented by Stagg. The offensive formation is the forerunner of the modern Shotgun formation. As a youth football player in the 70s, we ran this formation for quick kicks and fake quick kicks and is suited for this task.

The free youth football play below is the Short Punt Formation Play the Tailback 23 Cut Back Counter Trap Play. This formation is called “Open” by Coach Zuppke in his book. This Counter Trap play is from his book Football Techniques and Tactics. The play is very similar to an I Formation midline counter trap play or most likely the other way around since this formation is from ~ 1896.

Short Punt Formation Play

Short Punt Formation Play 23 Cut Back

I like this play for youth football since there are no offensive guards pulling. You can use the QB as a trapping guard. This is very similar to my Trig formation / Diamond with the QB now used as a sniffer. As I was researching this play and playbooks, this is a very good formation as a youth spread formation with the TB a hybrid QB/TB player. Kinda looks like a Gus Malzahn power spread formation. Now I wonder, Hmmm? The more I write and research football, nothing is new.

We have run Cut Back plays in the past on our youth football team and what we have found is your running back must be a very quick juke type running back to consistently run this play vs using as a “big play” for a large gainer or TD. Either way it helps to have a quick running back to carry the football in this play.

Short Punt Formation

I like the short punt formation. It is similar to a Pistol formation with the QB as a sniffer back. We actually use a short punt formation to run our Rugby punts from since it is easier to snap than a normal punt formation with a 15 yard snap. I also like to run fakes from this formation and it is pretty effective. We will run a route combo with X and the WB.

You can find out more Single Wing Formations in my blog post on Single Wing Offensive Formations. and some more on the Yale Single Wing Beast Formations.

Below is one of many proven Single Wing Beast Formation Plays in the Beast Wide formation that I call Worm for wide in my Power Wing Beast Offense playbook for youth football. Today’s free youth football play in the this series is the Worm Flood Pass from the Beast Offense Wide formation. If you would like to see more Beast formation variations then you can check out these Beast Formations.

Like most of the unstoppable youth football plays from the Beast formation the Beast Wide Flood Pass or Worm Flood Pass is a top youth football pass play. It has great pass blocking protection and floods the zone. There are several pass combos to this play and below is the main Worm Flood play diagram and game video of other Single Wing Beast Formation plays in the Worm formation set up for passes.

Single Wing Beast Formation Plays

Worm Flood Pass play - SW Beast Formation Plays

This Worm Flood pass play is really a sweep option flood from the Wide Beast Formation. In Worm we just scoot the 3 blocking backs out to just outside the TE. The BBs stay tight together and in Beast Spread or Jumbo the BBs will spread out equidistant to the hash or sideline.

In the play above we really like to hit the 3 back on the quick out and sometimes the TEX will be wide open if the safety misses him and the CB plays the 4 back. We set this play up running Beast Tank and Worm Stretch Sweeps so the defense is really tuned in to stopping hard downhill single wing beast formation plays and will usually let a receiver sneak out open for a nice pass play.

Beast Wide Formation AKA Worm Formation

Below is the Beast Wide formation or what I call Worm, short for Wide. Once again this is a great Beast formation to run many single wing Beast formation plays out of to score and punish youth football defenses.

Worm Pass Play Beast Wide Worm Formation Pass Play

You can run the Worm formation under center of in the gun. I prefer to run Worm in gun since it is better for Sweeping and Passing vs Beast Tight formation which I may run under center called BUC.

Worm Formation is the Beast Wide Formation

Here are a few single wing Beast formation plays that we ran during the playoffs a few years ago. Pretty good plays. Love the reverse drag concepts, especially against aggressive defenses.

Single Wing Counter Play UBSW WB Counter

The free play today is the Single Wing Counter Play 36 WB Counter Play from the Unbalanced Single Wing Offense invented by Pop Warner in 1906. This Single Wing formation is sometimes called the Z formation, A formation, Carlisle Formation and just the Single Wing. The Unbalanced line is trying to address defenses at the time period that were overloading to the wide side of the field. You can find more on Single Wing formation on my SW Formation blog post.

Too funny, I just realized today’s Single Wing Counter play is just like the free play a few days ago the Double Wing Counter Play. I must love youth football misdirection plays. And, Yes I do! I was going through Single Wing books and playbooks and the UBSW Single Wing Counter Play by the WB kept coming up so I drew it up from an old playbook of mine. I thought it looked familiar as I was writing this post. I must be getting old like this UBSW offensive formation from 1906. LOL.

Single Wing Counter Play

Single Wing WB 36 Counter Play Free UBSW

The Single Wing Counter Play is very similar to the DW Counter since the SW and DW offenses were invented by Pop Warner. This play is a little tough for some youth football teams since you are pulling two lineman but I have done it pulling just one around. Ive also adjusted into an Even offensive line and called a TUFF tag which moves my two big OTs to playside either Even SW or UBSW. That works great too.

You will see this WB counter play from just about every youth football offense with a wingback. Pretty standard play in youth football since it is very effective for long gains on a over aggressive and over pursuing defense. Try it out? Do you run a similar play?
