Samsung to pour $22 billion into the emerging technologies

Tech giants Samsung will invest $22.0 billion into the upcoming technologies such as 5G and AI as it looks for new innovative products to bolster its growth. The post Samsung to pour $22 billion into the emerging technologies appeared first on Global Industry...

The South Korean mammoths in a statement said that it will pour $22.0 billion over three years into four different areas. In addition to 5G and AI, the company will also focus its endeavors on biopharmaceuticals and automotive electronics parts.

Samsung said it would enlist 1,000 AI researchers around the globe and look to wind up a noteworthy player in cutting-edge 5G networks. It said the two technologies are essential for the improvement of autonomous vehicles.

Samsung is the biggest conglomerate in South Korea and the biggest smartphone maker in the world. But its revenue has majorly suffered due to the below-par sales and the slowing demand for memory chips.

Chinese companies Xiaomi and Huawei are the major rivals of Samsung and are giving the South Korean giant increasing competition.

In recent years, a series of scandals have hit the organization. Lee Jae-Yong, the de facto leader of Samsung, was found guilty of corruption a few months back but was released from prison in February.

The investments announced are the piece of a larger plan to spend $160.0 billion in the next three years on research & development and capital expenditures.

The company’s manufacturing hub, as well as the display and memory businesses, are the areas that will be aimed for investment.

In the next three years, Samsung plans to create 40000 new jobs.

Croatia’s Mateo Kovacic has been signed by Chelsea on a season-long loan from the Spanish giants Real Madrid, with Chelsea’s No.1 Thibaut Courtois to have his permanent move to Real Madrid to be confirmed later today.

The Croatian midfielder, Kovacic, has been in Madrid for the last three seasons since joining the Italian club Inter Milan. Despite the move, he had very little game time at Madrid, whose midfield was dominated by Kovacic’s fellow countrymen Luka Modric and the German workhorse, Toni Kroos.

Kovacic was a part of the Croatian squad that reached the finals of the FIFA World Cup held in Russia, this summer. Though he didn’t get too many starts in Russia as well, he did make important contributions as a substitute.

Kovacic joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2015 and have gone on to win three consecutive UEFA Champions League title.

Kovacic was just 17 years old when he scored his first goal in the UEFA Champions League against the French club, Lyon. The goal made him the second-youngest player to have ever found the back of the net in the Champions League.

“He is a perfect fit for us this season, his style is well suited to how Maurizio wants to play, and we are sure he will prove to be a valuable asset for the club.”, said Marina Granovska, the director of Chelsea football club on Kovacic’s addition to the squad.

Football Gossips: Deadline day headlines

The English League’s transfer window came to a close yesterday. English teams now won’t be able to buy anyone before the winter transfer window opens in January, though they can still sell players and sign players on loan and free agents. Let us take a look at the few gossips that made the headlines on the final day of the English summer transfer window.

  • Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho believes that Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola has been disrupting the club’s environment by offering the French World Cup-winning midfielder to Juventus and Barcelona.
  • Alexis Sanchez, who joined Manchester United in the winter transfer window has said that the club could have brought in a few more “world-class players” during this season’s summer transfer window. The 29-year-old Chilean forward was involved in a cash-plus player deal that saw United’s Henrick Mkhitaryan moving the other away to the Emirates.
  • Jose Mourinho has been told by the Manchester United board that he should stop asking for money for signing new players and try to focus on getting the best out of the players he has at his disposal. United board has also asked him to develop the youth players as well.
  • Manchester United had the opportunity to sign England and Leicester City center-back, Harry Maguire for a fee of around £15 million in the last summer transfer window. United had then turned down the offer to sign the 25-year-old English defender.
  • Manchester United’s desperation to sign a defender was so much that they were set to pay £100 million for acquiring the services of Real Madrid’s 25-year-old center-back Raphael Varane
  • A deal that could have taken Manchester United’s Argentine defender Marcus Rojo to Everton collapsed because the Red Devils failed to sign a replacement for the 29-year-old player.
  • Barcelona has an option to buy Yerry Mina back from Everton for a fee of around £53.9 million. There is a buy-back clause in Mina’s deal that took him to Goodison Park.
  • Everton’s loan move for Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma is not yet confirmed. The Toffees will have to wait for a few hours to find out whether the move for the 23-year-old French center-back has been successful or not.
  • Emre Can leave Anfield to join the Turin-based club Juventus as a free agent this summer. Reds manager Jurgen Klopp said that he has no issues with the German midfielder leaving the club for free after deciding to reject a new contract offer. The 24-year-old midfielder was pivotal in Liverpool’s resurgence last season.
  • Tottenham and England left-back Danny Rose wants to move to PSG on a loan. The 28-year-old was out of action for the most part of the season due to injuries. With him out, Keiran Trippier took the starting role and his performances for Spurs saw him being selected for the England World Cup squad. Tripper was arguably England’s best player in Russia and has made a case for him being selected ahead of Rose.
  • Tottenham Hotspurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has blamed the club’s new stadium and Brexit for Tottenham’s lack of activity in the summer transfer window.
  • Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon has joined the race to sign Juventus’ Italian forward Stefano Stuart. Stuart was expected to join Premier League club Watford, but the deal fell through in between.
  • After receiving a lot of abusive comments in reply, Real Madrid’s new signing from Chelsea, Thibaut Courtois deleted his Facebook post bidding adieu to the Chelsea fans.
  • Aston Villa’s attacking midfielder Jack Grealish has reportedly agreed to sign a new contract that could have a clause allowing the 26-year-old midfielder to leave Villa Park if Aston Villa fails to win promotion this season.
  • Sean Dyche, manager of the Clarets has said that this transfer window has been the worst he’s ever had.
  • Boro’s £6 million deal for 25-year-old Everton midfielder Muhamed Besic broke down over agents’ fees. Despite it, Middlesbrough is positive about securing a loan move for the Bosnian player. The Teesside club is also hopeful of signing Yannick Bolasie on a loan move from Goodison Park.
  • Middlesbrough’s bids for midfielders George Saville and Jed Wallace were rejected by Millwall on the transfer deadline day.

NFL Pre-season Games: Players protest during the national anthem

Many players of the National Football League have protested against the racial discrimination faced by the African Americans in the United States during the national anthem before the start of pre-season games. The Miami Dolphins wide-receiver Robert Quinn and San Francisco 49ers’ wide-receiver Marquise Goodwin raised a fist during the national anthem, as did the Philadelphia Eagles’ Superbowl winning cornerback De’Vante Bausby and safety Malcolm Jenkins.

Teammates of Miami Dolphins’ Robert Quinn, wide-receiver Kenny Stills, and Albert Wilson took a knee during the national anthem, to show their protest against the racial injustices by the United States police.

The National Football League says that its plans to fine the players who protest during the national anthem have been put on hold.

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was the first to start the protest during the 2016 NFL season.

The player’s demonstrations of not standing and taking a knee or raising a fist or locking arms led to criticism from Donald Trump, the President of the United States.

“I just think it’s important to keep this conversation going, that we don’t let it get stagnant,” said Jenkins after the Eagles’ 31-14 loss to Pittsburgh Steelers.

“Everybody’s kind of waiting to see what the league is going to do. It’s just my personal decision to keep these things at the forefront.”

The National Football League’s anthem policy has been put on hold for the time being as it plans to hold a discussion with the NFL Players Association.

It had before ruled that the players who do not want to stand during the Star-Spangled Banner should not come out on the pitch during the anthem and should staying the locker room.

The governing body said: “The NFL has been engaged in constructive discussions with the NFL Players Association regarding the anthem and issues of equality and social justice that are of concern to many Americans.

“While those discussions continue, the NFL has agreed to delay implementing or enforcing any club work rules that could result in players being disciplined for their conduct during the performance of the anthem.”

Mercedes unveils fully electric SUV – The EQC 400 4MATIC

In a bid to take on US rival Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, the German automaker has finally unveiled its first fully electric car, the EQC 400 4MATIC.

Daimler’s subsidiary says the EQC will have a range of traveling more than 450kms.

The EQC will start rolling off production lines in Bremen 2019 at the Mercedes-Benz plant.

Mercedes is investing more than €9.0 billion to expand its electric range and more than €1 billion to produce the batteries.

By 2022, Mercedes plans to launch the EQC 400 4MATIC. The new electric SUV is the very first model in a range of ten EQ cars.

With the United Kingdom and France planning to ban combustion engines, and with European cities establishing low emission zones in the cities across Europe, most carmakers have been trying to enter the e-vehicle industry.

Up to this point, California-based electric car maker Tesla, which is finding it hard to meet the production targets and burning through cash, had very little or no competition.

Right now, Audi and Porsche, German automakers are on track to manufacture the luxury e-vehicles. In Britain, Jaguar is on its way to producing luxury electric vehicles as well.

Earlier this year, after Daimler was found to be fitting its cars with illegal software that covers diesel emissions was ordered by the German government recalled 238,000 vehicles in Germany.

774,000 diesel vehicles of Daimler across all of Europe contain “defeat devices”. The company said that it would recall all of them and said it would refit the software but denied any wrongdoing.
