Life gave us a deluge

I haven’t posted anything since July. Life has been rough to my family and I simply did not have the time or energy to post anything. I have no desire to say more than that, but we are all trying our best to heal and move forward. I’m hoping that we can do this over the next year and get back into a rhythm that will allow me to post updates.

I was offered a position at the publishing company I’ve been interning at, and that news is the little kernel of good news that I’ve been hanging on to these past couple months. That said, we have several new titles that are being released soon with our newest publication just in time for Valentine’s Day.

This book is a compilation that will be released on February 11th. I’ll attach some teasers below if anyone is interested.

I am still working on Neon Girlfriend, but getting back into the swing of writing has been slow and my personal deadline of looking for agents at the end of last year got pushed back. I’m hoping to have queries sent out by spring this year.

Filles Vertes Publishing has a new cover reveal! This time, it will be for What You Don’t Know by Merry Jones! You obviously clicked on the post because of the gorgeous cover photo, but keep reading to see what the book is about and learn a little bit more about the author!

Nora Warren hides her dark side well because she’s had years of practice.

The wife of a lawyer and mother of two girls, she slides under everyone’s radar, never revealing what she really is—a murderer.

At least, she feels like one.

Nora’s plagued by the secrets surrounding her older brother’s suicide decades earlier. Yet she lives as though he never existed.

Now, in her thirties, Nora suspects her husband, Dave, is having an affair with her friend, the wife of a leading US Senate candidate. When her friend’s body is discovered—another apparent suicide—Nora is left with haunting secrets and choices that dredge up her grim nature, the side of herself that no one ever sees. Will she act on her impulses? Mustn’t she?

How far will Nora go to protect the life she has built for herself?

Merry Jones is the award-winning author of non-fiction (Birthmothers), humor (I Love Him, But…) and dark fiction (including the Zoe Hayes mysteries, the Elle Harrison suspense novels and the Harper Jennings thrillers). She is a long-time writing teacher, lecturer, speaker and panelist, and a member of The Authors Guild, International Thriller Writers, Mystery Writers of America, and The Philadelphia Liars Club. So, a while back I posted that I got an internship with a publishing house. I’m still super excited about that, and this is my first (unofficial) task that I get to help with. Filles Vertes Publishing is releasing author Shay Emms book, Airily, and I get to show you the cover reveal!

I’m super excited to help the team in any way I can, and I’m also super stoked to promote another writer! So, read below for the cover reveal and blurb on this upcoming publication!

AIRILY: A Bird Fairies Novel
Author: Shay Emms
Airily_Cover_Front.jpgRule #1 Never get caught. Rule #2 Never be seen.

Airily isn’t too excited to follow the rules when humans move into the farmhouse her sparrow fairy family calls home. Tempted to the kitchen, Airily falls into the human boy’s trap. Although she doesn’t trust him, getting in trouble with Poppa is not on her agenda. She buys Josh’s silence with a binding promise of friendship.

Then, a deadly fae called a Cait Sidhe comes to the forest looking for a silver torc of great power. Airily’s Poppa rallies the local fae against the evil beast but gets kidnapped.

Airily and Josh must race against time to save Poppa and rid the woods of the ferocious killer. Between Airily’s knowledge of local fairfolk and Josh’s ingenuity, they just might have a chance.

Author Bio: Shay Emms writes, draws, paints, and then writes some more. She was born in Montana but now lives in Oregon which provides endless inspiration… if you count moss growing on trees as inspiration. Which she does. Her obsessions include birds, books, and talking mice stories. She loves fantasy, magic, and witches, and left to her own devices would probably write them into everything. She’s a big fantasy geek and one day hopes to read all the books on her bookshelves. Shay loves anime, cartoons, manga, and fosters birds for a local rescue. Her natural habitat while editing is a coffee shop and she can generally be found there with a mug of tea and her laptop.

A Sideways Step Can Still Be a Step in the Right Direction.

I have some exciting news! I applied for an internship at a publishing company, and I got one of the six positions! I’m super excited about it because I met the Lead Editor at the AWP conference that I went to in Portland and I absolutely loved her. I’d been checking up on their website...

I have some exciting news! I applied for an internship at a publishing company, and I got one of the six positions! I’m super excited about it because I met the Lead Editor at the AWP conference that I went to in Portland and I absolutely loved her.

I’d been checking up on their website since the conference, and I took the chance and submitted for the internship. I was hoping she’d remember me, but I wasn’t sure. She did! Which was awesome, but I was also afraid I was going to be WAY too enthusiastic when it came to the video interview. I think I managed to keep my cool.

It doesn’t start until the summer, and I’m super impatient to start, but when it does, it means I’ll be learning the ins and outs of the publishing world from marketing to formatting and editing.

Super cool, right?

It may not have anything to do with my manuscript, (which just went through a major overhaul), but I’ll be gaining an education that will be worth it for years to come.

Slow progress is still progress

It has been a while since I posted. I had received some bad news the last time I was supposed to post, and I honestly didn’t feel like writing an update.

It’s been a while, but I’ve made some progress on the manuscript. It is with an editor at the moment, and I should hopefully hear from her later this week. I genuinely have no idea what kind of response I’ll get when I finally do get it back, but I’m hoping that it will be good news.

I will say that waiting for my editor to get back to me has been a test in patience. I have been trying to work some editing jobs, but the response has been slow. I keep telling myself that any progress is good progress, but it’s rather frustrating nonetheless.

My husband is off on training for work, so that means I’ll probably slip back into my night owl ways, but I usually get my best work done at night, so I’m comfortable with that.

I’m trying to take advantage of the beautiful weather Boise has been giving us and going on hikes.

Hopefully the next time I post I will have my manuscript back!

Returning to regularity after AWP

The last thing I posted was on AWP in Portland, and it was terrific. I do think I reached my limit of socializing for a while. I’ve done nothing but hide in my house and work since I got back! In all truthfulness, it was a wonderful experience, and I’m thinking of going again next...

In all truthfulness, it was a wonderful experience, and I’m thinking of going again next year when it’s held in San Antonio.

The important thing is that I put myself out there. I introduced myself and handed out my card. I’m hoping that I made some meaningful connections with other authors and perhaps a few publishers.

Other than that, I’m beyond happy to just be home for the foreseeable future. I need the time to get back to work and become a house hermit again!
